The day started early – 5:30am to be exact.  And despite only getting a few hours of sleep, I literally jumped out of bed to shower and attempted to get ready before the twinks woke up.  Wishful thinking though.  Bray came rushing into our bathroom about ten til six with a gusher…a gushing nose bleed that is.  After doctoring him up, he was up and at ’em – ready to dress himself, make his bed, brush his teeth, control paste his hair – all on his own!  He even flossed all by himself.

Shortly after, in came my sleepy princess with out stretched arms…ready for her morning hug.  After lots of love, she returned to make her bed, dress herself (yes, she insisted that she wear the jacket and brother’s tie), brush teeth, hair and head down for a healthy breakfast.

Our morning had begun.

Daddy whipped us up some yummy eggs and toast while I blew up a couple of balloons in preparation of a new tradition…”Our-1st-Day-of-School-Front-Porch-Picture!”

Two seconds later (because honestly that is all the twinks ever give me when taking pictures of them), we were off to school.

That is when the serious lump-in-the-throat started.

The principal and a handful counselors and teachers were all outside greeting everyone.  R.O.C.K in the USA was playing as we arrived, children were laughing, parents were hugging – the entire scene was like something straight out of a motion picture.  It was picture perfect.  It was Heaven.

We walked the hallway – fighting that lump the entire way.

Bray and Addy were SUPER CHAMPS!!  They were simply mesmerized by all of the energy and cheer.  They walked confidently into class, found their seats and only for one brief moment did Addy start melting a little – when she discovered that brother was not sitting at the same table as her (per our request to the teachers).   But after a little reassurance that he was near and coloring redirection she was great.

Still fighting that lump.

And then, Mrs. Cranford approached us.  She said, “My morning daily devotional was about Momma Birds.  Please know from this Momma Bird to you, we will take wonderful care of your babies.”

This is where I lost it.

My husband and I turned to leave as I sobbed all the way out.  Head down.  Tears streaming.  Tissues soaked.

I ugly cried the whole way home.

Tears of pure joy, happiness and gratitude.  Motherhood is the greatest blessing.  To watch your babies grow and flourish, well…it is priceless and indescribable.
